    At the moment even when clients use a custom subdomain with a wildcard SSL, the IDX Pages don’t yet fully support https://. Several other IDX providers already support https based on their setup, while the big portals such as Zillow do not yet. However there is one BIG REASON IDX Broker NEEDS to support HTTPS, client logins.

    Site visitors can create logins as leads for saving info such as properties and seraches. Many of these site visitors are not sophisticated and are probably using the same login they use for everything else such as their email accounts, social accounts, and bank accounts. Others may consider this info as being private. You can clearly see the problem with this, supporting SSL should be possible to help prevent some of the various security concerns. Besides the security concerns supporting SSL would provide benefits such as the ability to support Google’s SPDY for performance gains.

    Updating any resources to just use //CLIENT-INSTALL-NAME.idxbroker.com (same applies for the custom subdomains) instead of http:// would be the first major step.

    For image urls hosted by the MLS, we are aware this would be out of your control. The best thing for now would be just simply create a list of MLS boards that don’t support https for images, maybe as a KB article, or an internal doc for partners. Then we can use this information to notify any our clients with these providers why we can’t yet support https, and maybe put a small amount of pressure on those MLS boards to start supporting it. Other options for this could be to proxy the images thru your own server/subdomain. There would be more cost for you guys, but more opportunities as well, such as say implement a service like kraken.io to say optimize all of the images.

    We have discussed this with Antonio quite a bit recently, and think its something that is important for Security, SEO, and Performance reasons.

    I know part of the problem with supporting SSL for IDX Broker is that not all MLS/Boards support HTTPS. Many of the MLS/Boards require the images to load from the MLS/Boards server(s). It would be great to get a list going of the MLS/Boards that do and don’t support https for images.

    I have client specifically requesting https for their sites. One major problem I’ve noticed is it renders the widgets useless because they can’t run in an https environment. This means no featured properties, no login or signup widgets, etc.

    I would at least like to see IDX Broker quickly add support HTTPS for the following subdomains:

    * mlsphotos.idxbroker.com
    * clientphotos.idxbroker.com

    This should be very simple for them to do (just setup the certs), and goes toward showing they want to move IDX Broker to https in the near future.
