  I currently have a quick search in the banner of https://www.register2win.net. The client would like a text field for the city instead of a drop-down similar to this https://www.outerbanker.com (I know this is not an IDX Broker solution but he likes this one). Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can do this?

  You can use the Omnibar search which lets you type in the city (among other things):
